Road Trip USA – Exploring America

We are getting ready to go on a nearly 4 weeks road trip from Indiana to California and back again. Yes, we are driving. Yes, we are probably crazy. Yes, we are looking forward to it and are thankful for this opportunity.

One of the things I love about travelling is the planning! Normally we are flying when we travel and we dig out the same old ‘old faithful’ bags that have our luggage tags on them and duct tape holding them together! This time, however, because we are road tripping it and we are not taking a car top box I had to think about the type of bags we were going to use!

I went for ‘Thirty-one’ Bags’!

Everyone gets a large bag for their clothes and a smaller bag for ‘fun stuff’. When road tripping it is easier to limit what everyone takes if we all have the same bags 🙂

We are looking forward to exploring America as a family!

Interesting – 40 years ago this summer, we took a 4 week road trip to california and back with all 7 kids (of course, including your mother) in our brand new 1972 Chevy Van and we got beer cases (the ones for returnable bottles – very sturdy) and each one of the kids got to paint their case which would contain ALL they took with them for the trip – clothing and toys. Each time we stopped for the night, they would carry in their “suitcase”. The photo on Facebook where you commented about everyone being barefoot was in Arizona on the way out.
