Top 10 things YOU’d say…

…to someone who has the chance to move overseas

1/ DO IT
2/Leave your own cultural ‘norms’ at home
3/Don’t believe the stereotypes you see on the screen
4/Give yourself at least 2 years to settle down and get over leaving your home
5/Be a learner
6/Try to live there and in the moment not back home through technology
7/Expect change and prepare for it
8/Expect to be tired from living. Don’t panic you’re not ill!!
9/Accept that everything takes far longer to do/sort/arrange than it does at home. You’ve not suddenly incompetent, it’s normal!
10/Don’t forget your own culture, celebrations and language when in your home but learn and respect the new cultures, so you can join in and respect your new way of life and the people in it.

How perfect that I got 10 comments on my facebook page! And the rage of these comments come from business professionals wives, long term missionaries, students living abroad and everything in between!
