MBTI is a great tool to help you gain self-awareness! For the record I am an ESTJ. (Extroverted Sensing Thinking Judging) For years I thought I should be an ESFJ. Long story, but, ummmm, it is quite evident that I not 🙂
One of the reasons many assessment centers for church planters and missions agencies do MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator) is to help you understand more about yourself, why you react or don’t react to certain things, how you make decisions and where you gain your energy from.
If you’ve never done the test you can do a shortened version on facebook or longer versions on-line or go buy the book!
One of the best things that ever happened to me was doing an official training day at European Christian Mission Britain. It was hill-a-rious! I tested that time as an ESFJ. My colleagues read and it and said ‘It’s kinda you but not really.’ So I read them and ESTJ and they started laughing ‘Yep, that’s more like it.’
The trainers that day asked me two and only two very important questions. 1/ Are you in a time of great stress right now? Ans: YES! We are 6 weeks away from moving to the states.
2/ Was your father and or husband a strong ‘T’? Ans: YES and YES!!!
Then they gave this explaination….in times of high stress you operate as an ‘F’ to balance strong ‘T’s in you life.
Scary? yes! Accurate? yes! Helpful? YES!
